2004- AFC Divisional Playoff Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers (20-17, OT); Santana Moss' 75 yd Punt Return TD and Reggie Tongue's 86 yd Interception Return for a TD accounted for the Jets touchdowns. Ben Roethlisberger's TD pass to Hines Ward tied the game late in the 4th quarter. Doug Brien missed a 47 yd field goal with 2:02 remaining and also a 43 yd field goal with less than a minute remaining. Pittsburgh's Jeff Reed booted a 33 yd field goal in overtime to win the game. Jerome Bettis rushed for 105 yds and Hines Ward caught 10 passes for 105 yds to lead Pittsburgh.
2006- AFC Divisional Playoff Lost to New England Patriots 37-16; Game was much closer then the score indicated. Chad Pennington to Jericho Cotchery 77 yard TD pass gave the Jets a 10-7 lead. Mike Nugent kicked three field goals.New England's Asante Samuel had a 36 yard interception return TD of a Pennington pass to put the game out of reach. Tom Brady led New England with 2 TDPs and 212 yards passing. Lawrence Moroney & Corey Dillon combined for 122 yards rushing and Jabar Gaffney had 8 receptions for 104 yards to lead New England's offense.
2009- AFC Wildcard Playoff Beat Cincinnati Bengals 24-14; Mark Sanchez was near perfect (12-15, 182 yards), including a TDP to TE Dustin Keller (3 rec-99 yds). Shonn Green had 135 yards rushing including a 39 yarder to put away any hopes the Bengals had. Jay Feely filled in for injured punter Steve Weatherford and had some great kicks. Darrelle Revis shut down Bengal Pro Bowl Receiver Chad Ochocinko and held him to 28 yards receiving.
2009- AFC Divisional Playoff Beat San Diego Chargers 17-14; Mark Sanchez once again led the Jets to an improbably upset over the Chargers who came into the game with an 11 game winning streak. He tossed a TDP to Dustin Keller to get the Jet Offense in gear. Shonn Green (128 yards rushing), burst through the Charger defense for a 53 yard TD spring to give the Jets the lead. The Jet Defense took over from there as they held the league's most potent offense in check. Thomas Jones converted a 4th and 1 to clinch the game in the final minute.
2009- AFC Championship Lost to Indianapolis Colts 30-17; After a scoreless first quarter, the Jets jumped out to a lead on a Mark Sanchez to Braylon Edwards 80 yard Touchdown pass and went into halftime with a 17-14 lead. Mark Sanchez threw for 257 yards total and two TDs. Braylon Edwards (2 rec, 100 yards) and Jericho Cotchery (5 rec, 102 yards) led the Jets offense. The Colts defense was the real story of this game as they held the #1 rushing attack in the NFL to 86 yards total. Colts QB Peyton Manning finally figured out the vaunted Jets defense in the second half and finished up with 377 yards passing and three touchdowns.
2010- AFC Wildcard Playoff Beat Indianapolis Colts 17-16; Nick Folk kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired Saturday night, giving the New York Jets a 17-16 wild-card playoff victory over the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts, believed they had won the game when Adam Vinatieri made a 50-yard field goal with 53 seconds left. But the Jets got a 47-yard kickoff return from Antonio Cromartie, and Mark Sanchez set up Folk's field goal with an 18-yard pass to Braylon Edwards at the Colts' 14. New York called timeout with 3 seconds to go, and Folk hit the winner. Jet Rushing attack was key in the victory, keeping Colts QB Payton Manning off the field . LaDainian Tomlinson (82 yards, 2 TDs) and Shonn Green (70 yards).
2010- AFC Divisional Playoff Beat New England Patriots 28-21; Mark Sanchez threw three touchdown passes, NE QB Tom Brady was sacked five times as the Jets shocked the Patriots 28-21. The Jets backed up coach Rex Ryan's brash talk and kept Ryan's prediction of a Super Bowl appearance alive, forcing the team with the NFL's best record into rare errors. Jets led 14-3 at halftime and then Sanchez (194 passing yards) secured the victory with a 7-yard scoring pass to Santonio Holmes, and then finished the upset with Shonn Greene's 16-yard touchdown run. Jericho Cotchery (5-96 receiving) and Greene (76 rushing yards, TD) led the way.
2010- AFC Championship Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers 24-19; Pittsburgh held on to defeat the Jets thanks to a big-play defense that returned a fumble for a touchdown and staged a late goal-line stand. The Steelers ended the Jets' season with a dominant first half resulting in a 24-0 lead at one point, behind Rasheed Mendenhall (121 rushing yards, TD). Then the Jets began their comeback. Nick Folk (42-yard FG) at the end of the first half. Santonio Holmes got behind the Steeler DBs and a perfect throw by Mark Sanchez (233 yards passing) resulted in a long TD pass. The Jet Defense pulled down Ben Roethlisberger in the end zone for a safety. After receiving the free kick, Jericho Cotchery made a clutch TD reception. The Jets on-sides kick attempt failed and with time running out and the Jets needing the ball back, Big Ben Roethlisberger completed two clutch 3rd down passes to run out the clock. The Jets have now lost their 4th AFC Championship game since the magical 1968 season when Joe Willie Namath led the Jets to a victory in Super Bowl-III.
